Sunflowers are the subject of two series of paintings by the painter Vincent Van Gogh. The previous one
series, made in Paris in 1887 depicts flowers lying on the ground, while the second series created a year later in Arles shows bouquets of sunflowers in a vase. Dimensions with frame 42x50cm.
Little is known about Van Gogh's activities during the two years 1886-1888 that he lived with his brother Theo in Paris. The fact that he had already painted the Sunflowers became known in the spring of 1889 when Gauguin claimed one of the versions in exchange for the studies he had left behind in Arles on his way to Paris.
