Copying the portraits of Queen Elizabeth I, EllenMaurice, an heiress who claimed direct descent from the ancient Princes of Wales, is depicted in her portrait in extravagant attire. Marcus Gheeraerts was a prominent member of an artistic Anglo-Flemish family that greatly influenced early modern English painting.
