Striking hoop earrings reinterpreting a 7th century Frankish disc brooch with red garnets and blue glass decorations, owned by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (The MET). Pins were central to the development of Frankish fashion – between 300 and 500, women used pairs of small pins in fanciful shapes to fasten the fabrics they wrapped around their tunics. By 600, single, large and elaborately decorated disc-shaped brooches became popular functional ornaments. The brooch is considered the most characteristic element of Frankish clothing and testifies to the exceptional craftsmanship of Frankish metalworkers.
