Extremely impressive pendant necklace reinterpreting a 7th-century Frankish disc brooch with red garnets and blue glass embellishments owned by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (The MET). Pins played a central role in the development of Frankish fashion – between 300 and 500, women used pairs of small pins in inventive shapes to fasten the fabrics they wrapped around their tunics. By 600, single, large and elaborately decorated disc-shaped pins became popular practical ornaments. The brooch is considered the most characteristic element of Frankish clothing and is an example of the exceptional craftsmanship of Frankish metalsmiths.
