Excalibur Sword Gold / Red Enamel

Excalibur is the most accepted name of the legendary sword of King Arthur, to which different extraordinary properties have been attributed.

There are several theories regarding the origin of its name. One of the most accepted is that it comes from the Latin "EX Calce Liberatus", "Liberated from the Stone". Others consider Excalibur to mean "Cutting Steel", referring to one of its many magical properties.

Legend has it that, when King Uther Pendragon died, Merlin forged a sword (Excalibur) on the Island of Avalon (The Island of the Fairies) and nailed it to a stone in London near a Chapel.

The most widespread legend says that Arturo managed to get it out of the rock through an act of magic by Marlin. The sword was kept in a sheath that prevented the King from losing blood when he carried it in battle. Already dying, Arthur commissioned his Knight to throw the sword into the lake where Nimue, The Lady of the Lake, lived. When he throws it, a hand dressed in white silk grabs it and takes it into the depths.

The sword is said to rest next to the King in Avalon awaiting his return.
