"The Adoration of the Angels" by Nicolaos Gyzis
The great painter Nicolaos Gyzis (1842-1901), one of the most important 19th century Greek artists, was born on the island of Tinos but spent his whole life in Munich. “The Adoration of the Angels”, painted about 1898, belongs to the last period of his artistic work.
The original painting, bequeathed by George Averoff to the Hellenic National Gallery, has been reproduced on the finest porcelain especially for the present edition – accomplished in cooperation with the National Gallery and the Alexander Soutzos Museum – and is offered to you exclusively by Collections Helleniques.
Essential characteristic of the composition are the prevailing blue tones, while its harmonious symmetry – one kneeling angel on each side of a calm Madonna – masterfully leads the viewer’s eye to the main subject: the Divine Child, bathed in Eternal Light, transforming the whole scene into a heavenly vision. A snake, symbol of Evil, lying at the Virgin’s feet, and the outline of a large Cross behind her back, complete the composition.
The painting has been transferred on a 20 cm diameter Plate in fine porcelain, enhanced with a handmade 23-carat gold rim, which discretely highlights the masterpiece’s central theme. It is a unique piece for your festive decoration or a fine gift. Ensure some of the few available pieces now! The Plate is complimented by a stand offered free of charge.
